Recreation

Recreation for disabled is a technique used by therapist to restore, remediate or rehabilitate in order to reduce the harsh effects of disability. This technique is termed as recreation therapy, in this the therapist works with the patient and his/her family members to improve social, emotional and leisure needs of the patient (client). Such therapists are completely different from physical therapists as they work with such client which have lost ability to do that generally on which the physical therapists works. For example, they help a former athlete, who ha lost ability to walk,Recreation to get over it by making him play other games such as chess. They usually try to develop interest of the patient in other fields.

There are various efforts been made to practice recreation for disable so to maintain their interest? There are various professional organizations such as the National Therapeutic Recreation Society provides certified recreation therapy. There are certain educational programs which help in recreation therapy. There are many schools and colleges which give training and provide degree courses in recreational therapy. Also there are hospitals which have some department focusing only on recreational therapy. Such programs have helped the disabled people a lot and have helped in bringing back leisure to their life.
