Disabled’s Sport

Sport played by person with some disability is disabled sports. This can be physical disability or mental disability. Some sports are adapted sports while some have been created specially for challenged people. There are many different types of sports for people with different type of disabilities. Since during early 1990s, many countries started including sports for disabled people in Olympics and other major games.

Sports for person with disability is mainly divided into three groups, the deaf, people with physical disability and people with mental disability. Sports for deaf mainly include athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, football, judo, karate, etc. Sport for people with physical disability includes tennis, volleyball, archery, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair dance sport etc.

There are many organizations that are trying to get equality inDisableds Sport disabled sports. Several organizations have developed plans with principles to promote equal opportunities. There are some Special Olympic games, which are meant for people with mental disability, whereas there are Paralympic games that are meant for people with physical and mental disabilities. Special Olympics also provide training as well as competition to people with mental disability in number of sports. These sports developed out of rehabilitation programs which then became recreational sport and competitive sport.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is a process of restoring good physical health to develop the potential in the disabled people to do work. This process helps in restoring the health of the disable both mentally and physically. The rehabilitation process is a very successful and powerful therapy which has very high success rate and this is one of the strong reasons of acceptance of this therapy.

The branch of medicine that deals with functional restoration of a person affected by physical disability is known as physiatry.A physiatrist is one who completes his training in the field of physiatry. A physiatrist provides assistance for the Rehabilitation processes to the disable by providing medicines or doing some operations on the patient. A physiatrist mainly treats following disorders- musculoskletal pain like lower back pain, traumatic brain injury and fibromyalgia, they also work on spinal cord injury, amputation, stroke, sports injury.

There are different types of rehabilitation for example- CardioRehabilitationpulmonary rehabilitation which is related to heart and lung disease, Psychiatric rehabilitation which deals with rehabilitation to people having mental disorder.

Rehabilitation process has management of disorders which helps in altering performance and function of patient. It is based on combined use of physical modalities, experiential training and medication approaches. Certain neuromuscular disorders are treated by electrodiagnotics which provide prognosis and diagnose.

Mental Disability

People who have below normal learning capacity and slow learning skills are said to be having mental disability. Such people have developing disabilities, which is also called as delayed puberty. People with mental disability can have problems in speaking, difficulty in remembering things. They can also have trouble in understanding rules and in thinking logically. They can have trouble in understanding the difference between what is good and what is bad. People who have IQ level below 50.Mental Disability

It is difficult to find out if a child is having mild mental disability. Such people have slow growing ability rather than calling it a disability. There are person with moderate disability where a person with such disability can live with support of parents. In some cases, such disabled people need to join the special institutions or schools. There are intellectually disabled person where the person severely needs supervision.

These disabilities could be due to genetic conditions or problems during pregnancy or during birth. Disability is treated separately from disease. There is no cure for mental disability since birth. However, some teaching can result into people learning to do many things.

Some terms used for mental disability are cretin, idiot, moron, etc.
